J & T Windmills
May 20th, 2011J&T Windmills date back to the late 1600′s where the earliest known watch was created just before 1680 by a man named Joesph Windmill, this watch is the rarest of the collection and obtained in the british museum.
Joseph Windmill started out in St Martin’s Le Grand and is considered one of the finest clockmakers of the 17th century. Pocketwatches were seen as an ornament or accessery however after Joseph’s son Thomas finished his apprenticship and worked as a journeyman, he helped transform these creations into a more beautiful accurate and functional timepiece. The exact partnership of the father and son is unknown however from when Thomas joined the company it became greater as there was increase of work being produced.
Joseph passed away a year after attending the court at the clockmakers in 1724 where he left his 52 years of trade to his son Thomas who took over the company until he passed away in 1737.
Thomas never had children so wasnt able to pass down the legacy. However the company lived on, keeping the name and still making brilliant pieces.
