J & T Windmills

May 20th, 2011

J&T Windmills date back to the late 1600′s where the earliest known watch was created just before 1680 by a man named Joesph Windmill, this watch is the rarest of the collection and obtained in the british museum.

Joseph Windmill started out in St Martin’s Le Grand and is considered one of the finest clockmakers of the 17th century.  Pocketwatches were seen as an ornament or accessery however after Joseph’s son Thomas finished his apprenticship and worked as a journeyman, he helped transform these creations into a more beautiful accurate and functional timepiece. The exact partnership of the father and son is unknown however from when Thomas joined the company it became greater as there was increase of work being produced.

Joseph passed away a year after attending the court at the clockmakers in 1724 where he left his 52 years of trade to his son Thomas who took over the company until he passed away in 1737.

Thomas never had children so wasnt able to pass down the legacy. However the company lived on, keeping the name and still making brilliant pieces.

Man Finds Fathers Lost Pocket Watch After Almost 60 Years!

February 23rd, 2011

Barry Peplow from Shropshire had spent alot of time with his father playing football on the local green at their home located in Ragleth Gardens, Monkmoor in Shrewsbury UK. His father used to officiate when he could when up to 25 locals used to get together for an old fashioned knock around on the green. But whilst Barry’s father, John was officiating one of the local games in 1953, it got dropped or must have fallen out of his pocket and then been trampled into the ground. And it seemed he had lost his beloved pocket watch which he had used to time the games.
Despite a good thorough search for the pocket watch, it could not be found, and it was accepted that it was lost and just to be a apart of history.
Until one night whilst he was dropping a friend off at the local pub, his memory was jogged and he decided he would take a look for his dads long lost pocket watch.
The 67 year old now grandfather, who is a metal detector enthusiast, managed to detect his fathers pocket watch in under an hour! Barry was amazed and delighted he had found his fathers long lost pocket watch,Barry said his father, who died 10 years, would have been amazed at the discovery of the pocket watch.
